St. Bernard’s “Hall of Fame” Set for April 14, 2018

St. Bernard’s High School Alumni Association will hold its annual “Hall of Fame” dinner and induction on Saturday, April 14 at St. Bernard’s Academy, 222 Dollison St. The evening starts with a no-host social at 6:00 p.m. followed by the dinner at 6:45 p.m.

This year’s inductees are Sharon Falk-Carlsen, Class of 1967; Dennis Katri, Class of 1962; Madalenne Wooden Smith, class of 1951, and Babetta and Stan Francis, who are being honored as Friends of St. Bernard’s.

Sharon Falk-Carlsen is being honored for her involvement, commitment and service to St. Bernard’s Academy. She is a Charter member of the SB Alumni Association and has been the Alumni Representative to the St. Bernard’s Academy School Board. For the past 19 years she has been the “resident” photographer at St. Bernard’s home and away sporting events, taking innumerable photographs for the athletes, as well as photographs for graduation and other school occasions. Sharon taught 39 years at Blue Lake Elementary School where she began the Special Education Program. Sharon is currently the President of the Redwood Camera Club.

Dennis Katri is being honored for his many years of volunteer service at St. Bernard’s including using his knowledge as an electrician to remedy school electrical problems,for his immeasurable hours maintaining the football, soccer, and baseball fields, for running the scoreboard during football games, and for keeping the clock during countless basketball games and tournaments for many years.

Madalenne Smith is being honored for her volunteer work in the St. Bernard’s Academy library where her expertise has greatly benefitted students, teachers, and the school, and for her community involvement with numerous organizations, including, Girl Scouts of America, Humboldt Sponsors, American Cancer Society, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Humboldt County Library,Humboldt County Historical Society, Camp Fire Girls and U.S. Navy (retired).

Babetta and Stan Francis have been a fixture at St. Bernard’s for over 28 years donating their time and effort to the Saint Bernard’s community, helping out with fundraising activities, donating food and supplies for special events and dinners, leading and assisting in school programs, and chaperoning school field trips. Stan and Babetta have also been involved in the Eureka community by supporting local cancer and health drives and by sponsoring youth and adult sports teams.
